Chris Elfick obtained his B.Com (Hons) in 1986 and passed the Chartered Accountants Board exam and final exam for his CIMA in 1987. Chris completed his articles at Coopers & Lybrand in 1989. Chris obtained his MBL (Cum Laude) in 1994. Chris was a Partner in the PwC Consulting practice from 1993 to October 2002. His consulting assistance ranged from strategic planning assistance to performance and process improvement projects. Chris consulted on a number of IT-related matters and worked on a project identifying the impact of e-business on the industry. After the global sale of the PwC Consulting Practice to IBM, Chris elected to withdraw from the IBM merger and to establish a separate consulting group, Learning Strategies (Pty) Ltd, focusing specifically on Executive level strategic interventions. Chris continues to advise a broad range of clients across a number of industries. In 2006, Chris together with two partners formed the Lamda Group to provide various financial services in the establishment and administration of Collective Investment Schemes and Private Equity Funds. Part of this Group is Delta Private Equity through which Chris has facilitated various Private Equity and BEE transactions including two major retail property developments.
Marc Weber studied at the University of Cape Town and obtained his B.Sc. (Eng) (Mech) in 1987, his M.Sc. (Eng) (Mech) in 1990 and his Ph.D. in Probabilistic Structural Analysis in 1993. Marc started his career with Accenture (then Andersen Consulting) and was involved in a number of systems implementation projects, covering the entire systems development life cycle. After Accenture, Marc joined UCS Solutions (then Affinity Logic) as IT Executive assigned to CNA (a South African retailer), and subsequently Executive for solution architecture and service development for UCS Solutions itself. Marc joined Learning Strategies in 2006 as a Director with focus on programme management, business and IT strategy development, and business process and solution architecture design. Marc is a non-executive Director of Prime Collective Investment Schemes (Pty) Ltd and of Pine Trout Development (Pty) Ltd, as well as trustee on a number of private investment trusts.
Larry Hobson is a Chartered Accountant based in Port Elizabeth who operates as a business consultant in financial strategy, financial modelling, organisational development, valuations and due diligence assignments. He has experience of most business sectors, with most of his work having been done in the social housing and education sectors. He leads and performs projects across South Africa from his base in Port Elizabeth. Since 2003, he has been a director of Business Modelling SA, a division of Learning Strategies (Pty) Ltd. Larry has performed a large number of assignments, mostly in the social and rental housing sector in recent years, where he is recognised as a leading service provider in financial modelling and related strategic advice. From 1997 to 2002, he worked in the PricewaterhouseCoopers Management Consulting Division (later PwC Consulting), where his interest in financial modelling resulted in the establishment of the South African Business Modelling Unit and he was appointed an Associate Director in 2000. During this time in particular he performed several assignments in the Higher Education sector as part of the PwC Higher Education Sector Focus Group together with the same colleagues who today make up Learning Strategies. Larry worked in the United Kingdom for two years in 1995-1996 as an audit manager with Coopers & Lybrand, where he served a variety of commercial and financial services clients in auditing and corporate finance.
Nonkululeko Ndaba joined Learning Strategies in 2012 as an administrator and also serves as Personal Assistant to Chris Elfick. Noni provides executive administrative assistance on all projects. Prior to joining Learning Strategies, Noni worked as a Junior Foreign Exchange Consultant at Bidvest (Rennies Foreign Exchange). She joined their 2010 learner ship programme during which time she obtained sales experience and communication and interpersonal skills in preparation for the 2010 World Cup. Noni was also selected by management to assist and give training to consultants to increase card sales in several of the Bidvest branches. Noni is currently completing a B Com Law degree through UNISA.
Rob Elfick obtained his B.Com (Hons) in 1992 and passed the Chartered Accountants Board exam 1996. Rob completed his articles at Coopers & Lybrand in 1995. Rob obtained his MBL in 2000. After leaving the Small Business Advice Division of Coopers & Lybrand in 1997 Rob worked in the Catalytic Converter industry first as Financial Accountant for Engelhard South Africa ( Pty ) Ltd and then as Financial Manager for Precision Exhaust Systems (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of General Motors South Africa (Then Delta Motor Corporation) . From 2002 to 2007 Rob worked for Japan Tobacco International as a Finance Director employed in Geneva but seconded as an expat on a number of assignments including Head of Shared Services, St Petersburg, Russia Head of Regional Control, Moscow, Russia Regional SAP R2R Project Lead – Trier, Germany & Toronto, Canada Chief Financial Officer – JTI Adriatica Region (former Yugoslavia). Since returning to South Africa Rob has been involved in numerous consulting projects of varying lengths covering Project Structuring, Modelling and Start-up, Business Restructuring, Turnaround Strategies, Interim CFO and Project Management. These projects have covered a large variety of industries including Aquaculture, Food Processing, IT, Manufacturing, Sales and Service.
Helen Homan studied at the University of South Africa and obtained her B.Iuris in 1993 and her LLB in 2003. Helen is an Advocate of the High Court of South Africa. Helen started her career with the Department of Justice as a Registrar of the Supreme Court (now the High Court) of South Africa and was involved in the taxation of costs, the Motion Court and the management of the Court building. While at the Department of Justice, Helen was headhunted by the Road Accident Fund and accepted a position as Legal Costs Officer. During her time at the Road Accident Fund, Helen also worked as a Claims Handler Following the Road Accident Fund, Helen established and managed Helen Homan Legal Costs Consultants. The business specialised in the calculation of legal costs, in primarily civil litigation matters i.e. personal injury claims and property disputes. Helen joined Learning Strategies in 2011 as a Legal Consultant. Helen has been involved in numerous projects at Learning Strategies. These included feasibility studies, due diligence reviews and business cases for a number of clients such as the Department of Higher Education and Training, the Department of Human Settlements, the South African Maritime Safety Authority, and the Department of Public Service and Administration. Helen has also drafted legislation and policy for government and consulted on projects for various private sector clients.
Tinashe Guramatunhu studied at Rhodes University and obtained aB.Com (Accounting). After completing his Cambridge IGCSE Advanced level in Accounting, Mathematics and Economics Tinashe moved on to complete his Bachelors in Commerce and Accounting in record time. Tinashe started his career with Learning Strategies and has been involved in a number of consultancy projects, covering different sectors of industry and business. He has been able to hone in on his excellent organizational and supervisory skills, follow tasks proactively and manage competing deadlines thus adding value to the respective clients. He is also in the process of studying towards being a Chartered Financial Analyst
Ian has a broad background in business leadership and business advisory, marketing and sales strategy consulting and implementation. He has also been an executive coach since 2006 and has over 2 800 hours of coaching experience He has been employed in senior corporate roles in Anglo American and WR Grace. From 1995 to 2000 he was a Project Director and Presenting Analyst for Proudfoot Consulting. From 2000 to 2014 Ian was a partner and Director in Growth Partners and Maximus Business Turnaround (Pty.) Ltd. These are both marketing advisory and sales consulting companies where he supplied consulting, coaching, mentoring and training services to many large public and private sector organisations such as Nampak Limited, Nedbank Limited, the Gauteng City Region Academy, the National Department of Environmental Affairs, Afrox, Sasol and WesBank. Ian now focuses on business advisory, consulting and coaching support services.
Jillian Elfick studied at the University of Cape Town and completed her B.Com (Hons.) in Economics in 2014. Jillian recently joined Learning Strategies as a consultant and has been involved in projects at the Department of Higher Education and Training, Construction SETA and Lilitha College of Nursing.
Patience Mogoboya studied at the University of Johannesburg and obtained a B.Com Accounting in 2014. She recently joined Learning Strategies as a Consultant and has been involved in projects at the Department of Higher Education and Training, Construction SETA and Lilitha College of Nursing.
Paul studied at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and obtained his BSc in computer science and statistics in 1984 and his BCom in accounting in 1994. He started his career as an analyst/programmer, working on accounting and manufacturing systems. In 1994 Paul joined PWC (then Price Waterhouse) and worked for a number of years in their IT consulting and audit assurance division, having national responsibility for certain technical (IBM AS/400 practice lead) and service (year 2000 services) lines. In 1998 Paul joined Anglo American’s global internal audit function, after which he had a number of senior IT roles in the organisation, including information security and risk, program management and CIO for Kumba Iron Ore. Paul joined Learning Strategies in 2017 and is involved in IT projects and delivery.
Terry has a BBusSci, ICMA and has 33 years’ experience in starting and running companies mainly in the Technology space. As CEO of Softsource and a director of M+PD he was part of one of the first IT listings in the late 1980’s, he was CEO of EBE (Altech), CEO of the Westcon AME Group (Datatec), Founder and CEO of The Datanet Infrastructure Group, Country Lead for Deloitte’s Security and Privacy Practice and most recently founder and director of The Digital Databank. Terry also consults in Risk Management, Cyber Resilience and Quality Assurance. He is a keen golfer and mountain biker.
Ockert van Schalkwyk has extensive experience, skills and a successful track record as an executive, manager, consultant, project and programme manager in a variety of industries and technologies. He thrives on solving problems and managing complex business projects with more than 30 years' experience. Key value adding areas are ERP, a wide knowledge of all aspects of Information Systems and Technology, Business Processes and Cost Optimisation and Governance in primarily the Manufacturing, Mining, IT and Government industries. Before joining Learning Strategies, he was the Head of Delivery for Gijima, managing a team of about 800 people delivering IT Services and Projects in a variety of industries. The key achievement was to maintain service quality in a challenging cost optimisation environment to large and small clients. He has also lead a major technology refresh and data migration project in this period for a large client. He achieved a B. Eng. (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) from the University of Stellenbosch and is also a TOGAF ® 9 certified practitioner.
Mody DIOP is an Information Technologies Solutions Consultant, specialising in Data Migration, Data Management, Business Intelligence and System Integration Specialist and Architect. Mody has thirteen years (13) of experience in the retail and Financial Services Industries, in Southern Africa, Western Africa (Cote D’Ivoire and Ghana), and 5 years in the construction Industry. Mody started his IT career with a West African Civil Engineering Company – Consortium D’Entreprises (CDE) in Dakar Senegal. CDE had operations in six (7) African countries (Senegal, Mali, Guinea Bissau, Conakry, Togo and Cameroun). Mody was in charge of the Administration of their Computer Park, Windows Software Programming, Management of their PABX System, and Training of the Personal in Windows Application as well as AUTOSKETCH AND AUTOCAD.
Sanet Sanet Fourie studied at the University of Johannesburg (formerly RAU) and obtained a degree in Communications in 1991, an Honours degree in Human Resource Management in 1992 and a Masters degree in 2009. She has completed various management and development courses and is also a Prosci Change Management Practitioner. She started her career as a Workstudy Officer for the former Transvaal Provincial Administration in 1993, and advanced to become a Chief Director for Corporate Services within the Gauteng Provincial Government. She has vast experience as a generic Human Resource Manager within the Public Sector, as well as experience as an HR Consultant. Sanet joined the Learning Strategies team in 2017 as an Independent Contractor.
Nono Mchunu has Masters in Business Leadership from UNISA and currently serves as Managing Director of An Africa Now dealing specifically in project management and boasts experience in finance, strategy and management with the following sectors: Media, Transport, Construction, Property, Banking and Advertising and public sector both locally and internationally. Nono has launched and implemented notable assignments such as the Heritage feasibility planning, budgeting and management; radio communication infrastructure budget; and food catering and logistics. Nono’s other competence and skills include: Accountability & Responsibility; Delivery; High competence level in IT, Finance and Financial Systems; Leadership and Management; Business Planning; Strategic Planning; Research & Document Compilation; Organisational Planning, Human Resource Planning, Training, and Development.
Nomabali is an optimistic HR Generalist with 14 years working experience within the HR Field. Noma provides assistance to SAICA as an HR Business Partner in a DHET HR Project. Her proven working experience and leadership skills in both Private (FMCG & Financial Industries) and Public Sectors.
Zimasa studied at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and obtained a Btech in Strategic Management and Finance. Zimasa has recently joined Learning Strategies as an administrative assistant and provides back office support to consultants.
